Amherst and The Village of Williamsville

The Town of Amherst has reason to celebrate. The Northtowns community has been named the number one place to live in New York State, according to Money Magazine.

Amherst is an eastern suburb of Buffalo with a population of 125,024 and includes the Village of Williamsville. Amherst is in Erie County and has been named as one of the best places to live in New York. Living in Amherst offers residents a suburban feel and most residents own their homes.

There is an abundance of restaurants, coffee shops, shopping centers, attractions, businesses, and parks. Additionally, SUNY at Buffalo's North campus and a few smaller colleges are located within the town.

The public schools in Amherst include Williamsville Central, Amherst Central, and Sweet Home Central, and are highly rated. Many young professionals and retirees live in Amherst.

The allure of a Main Street shopping experience will draw you to Williamsville, located northeast of downtown Buffalo. The village is named after Jonas Williams, an early settler. The first water mill was built by Williams in 1811, giving the village its first name, "Williams Mills". It still stands today, next to Glen Park, and is known as the Williamsville Water Mill.

Every summer in Williamsville, Old Home Days is held in Island Park, located directly on Main Street in the village. The Carnival begins with a parade on the opening Tuesday, and for four days, thousands of people ride the rides, enjoy the food, and see the people Williamsville has to offer.
